Introduction to Breast Lifts

Breast lifts offer a means to improve breasts that are sagging and appear to have lost volume in the upper pole of the breast. Breast lifts are performed because of breast droopiness (called ptosis of breast in medical terms), sagginess, and elasticity loss and to improve displeasing breast shape. Breast augmentation patients may obtain better positioning for an implant through a breast lift. Some breast augmentation candidates may be better served through a breast lift alone. Breast lift considerations involve a variety of elements. Breast Lift Procedure

Anesthesia:
Breast lift is performed under general anesthesia and it takes up to 2 hours.
Breast Lift Technique:
There are endless methods to do this procedure. I tailor the procedure according to the individual situation. Conventionally the breast lift technique involves a inverted " T " shaped incision that form an anchor
Breast Augmentation Breast Lift Combination:
Breast augmentation breast lift combination procedures are one of the most difficult combinations to perform together. However its often needed and yields wonderful results. Some surgeons prefer to perform the procedures separately to reduce the risk of complications and allow for enough time for the implant to drop so a better estimate of the lift positioning can take place.
Breast Lift Recovery:
We provide a complete list of pre and post-operative instructions in order to reduce the risk of complications and allow for a smooth recovery. Breast lift patients can usually return to work and participate in most normal activities within a few days time, unless a breast augmentation is performed at the same time. In this case, participation in most normal activities may require two weeks of time. Most patients are pleased with the outcome of the procedure.
Breast Lift Risks:
As with all medical procedures, there are risks associated with breast lifts. Risks associated with breast lifts are reduced when pre and post operative instructions are followed by the patient.
Breast Asymmetry Breast may appear to be asymmetric in shape or contour.
Deep Vein Thrombosis: Deep Vein Thrombosis is a condition the results in a blood clot which forms deeply in the body, commonly found in the legs or thighs.
Hematoma (blood clots) may result from breast surgery.
Infection: Infection may occur and can be treated with antibiotics.
Necrosis: The term necrosis is used to describe dead tissue.
Revision Surgery: There is a risk that a revision surgery would be necessary to remove complications that result from initial surgery. Revision surgery may be required years later to improve results that have diminished over time.
Scarring: The procedure results in a visible scar relating to the incisions that fades over time. Poor healing may also result.
Sensation Loss: Sensation loss, temporary or permanent, may occur in the nipple or surrounding area.
Seroma: A seroma describes fluid accumulation that occurs in the breast.
Breast lift requires careful consideration. View board certified plastic surgeons in your area, read about the breast lift from the plastic surgeon's prospective, view before and after photos, and discuss your Plastic surgery needs.
Where will the surgery be performed?

Technique of Breast Lift Surgery
Breast lift surgery uses incisions around the areola to remove excess skin, lifting the breast tissue. Breast lift surgery techniques vary, with degrees of scarring depending upon the amount of skin removed. The most common breast lift surgery results in an inverted " T " shaped scar following the natural contour of the breast.
Pre-surgery Consultation
Prior to breast lift surgery, you need to spend some 40 minutes with me to discuss your individual requirements and decide which breast lift surgery technique is best suited to your situation. Breast lift surgery does not address issues such as the size of the breast and in some cases breast lift surgery is combined with a breast implant or breast reduction to achieve optimal results. Once the breast lift surgery style is determined, then we together will set a date for the surgery.
Surgery
Generally speaking, a breast lift surgery takes about an hour and a half to complete. The first step in breast lift surgery is removing excess skin, after which the nipple is moved to a higher position. After breast lift surgery is completed, the incision site is sutured shut. The stitches from a breast lift surgery usually outline the areola, then follow a vertical line down the breast and along the crease. Breast lift surgery involving a breast implant takes longer; the implant placed directly under breast tissue or muscle.
Recovery
Breast lift surgery patients usually wear an elastic bandage or surgical bra over their gauze dressings. Following breast lift surgery. The breast area will be bruised and swollen for a few days, although breast lift surgery pain is not usually severe. Some loss of sensation, or hyper sensitivity, in the breast and nipple after breast lift surgery is not uncommon, and should fade as swelling subsides in the weeks after breast lift surgery. Patients should monitor the incisions from their breast lift surgery for signs of infection,( increasing redness on suture line) reporting infection to us immediately. I place all my stitches inside the skin and therefore no stitches needs to be removed. Recovery from breast lift surgery is a matter of waiting for the swelling and redness to disappear.
Mastopexy Breast Lift
A mastopexy breast lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is performed in order to raise and reshape sagging breasts caused by pregnancy, breast feeding, aging and gravity. The mastopexy breast lift procedure can also correct areola size and positioning.
Candidates for Mastopexy
Good candidates for mastopexy breast lift surgery are women who are physically and emotionally healthy. Women who are not planning on getting pregnant following mastopexy breast lift surgery are also better candidates. This is because pregnancy can cause the breast tissue to expand and sag; thereby compromising the results of a mastopexy breast lift procedure. Patients who fully understand the benefits and risks that accompany mastopexy breast lift surgery and have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure make the best candidates for mastopexy breast lift surgery.
Preparing for a Mastopexy
Before a mastopexy breast lift surgery date is set: there are several things that a patient should discuss with me. Discussion about your full medical history and current use of medications and supplements is necessary to ensure that there is not an increased risk of complications. It is also possible that I will recommend a mammogram prior to mastopexy breast lift surgery and for diabetic patient I may have to control your sugar levels before surgery.
Procedure
During the mastopexy breast lift procedure, the anesthetist will administer a general anesthesia. Depending on surgical style decided between me and you during the consultation I will make my incisions accordingly. These incisions are made to remove excess skin and reposition the glandular tissue and the nipple complex to achieve a more enhanced youthful appearance. The mastopexy breast lift procedure takes one and a half to three and a half hours to complete.
Recovery
Initial back to work is possible in one week time but must take pain medications if there is excessive pain, oral antibiotics. Swelling or bruising will disappear by the time week ends. However one should use special surgical garments for 3 months. Numbness of the breast area may occur for six weeks and can sometimes be permanent.
Periareolar Breast Lift – Circumferential Breast Lift
A periareolar breast lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that enhances the appearance of a female's breasts. A periareolar breast lift, or mastopexy, is performed on women who have experienced breast sagging as a result of pregnancy, breast feeding, aging, and gravity. A periareolar breast lift procedure refers to a special technique used in mastopexy surgery that has less scarring than other breast lift procedures.
A patient who is considering periareolar breast lift surgery should discuss their medical history, including all current medications and supplements, with their surgeon in order to mitigate the risks associated with this cosmetic surgical procedure. A patient should understand the risks and benefits of periareolar breast lift surgery and have realistic expectations about the intended results of the surgery. It is possible that a surgeon will recommend a mammogram be completed prior to periareolar breast lift surgery.
Surgery and Recovery
During a periareolar breast lift procedure an incision is made around the areola. The areola is the brown colored skin surrounding the nipple. Once this incision is made, the surgeon is able to tighten the breast tissue in all directions by removing excess skin. The periareolar breast lift procedure can also enhance breast appearance by reducing the size of the areola and repositioning the nipple. A periareolar breast lift procedure is most appropriate for women with a small degree of breast and/or nipple malposition. The periareolar breast lift procedure itself is done as a day case in a hospital. The procedure takes anywhere between one and four hours and is done with the use of a sedative and general and local anesthesia. Once the periareolar breast lift procedure is complete, the breast area will be wrapped in layers of gauze and secured with an elastic bandage. The patient benefits from the use of a surgical bra for four to six weeks after the periareolar breast lift procedure. Bruising, swelling and discomfort is not uncommon during the first week or two and can be relieved with the help of prescribed pain medications. Stitches are usually removed a week to ten days after the surgery. Numbness may be experienced for up to six months and can sometimes be permanent.
Risks and Complications
As with any surgical procedure there are some risks associated with periareolar breast lift surgery. Complications from the use of anesthesia, as well as bleeding and swelling are possible risks associated with the periareolar breast lift surgery. Though the scars are smaller than those in other mastopexy procedures, a patient may experience some scarring. Scarring is often exacerbated in smokers. Patients who undergo periareolar breast lift surgery also run the risk of permanent loss of sensation in their breasts.
Where will you see me for first consultation?
I will see you at my clinic in JBR/Dubai Marina area called Life Line Medical center located on the First floor of Al Fattan Marine Tower on the JBR Walk /Dubai Marina.
Scar less Breast Lift
Scar less breast lift surgery uses small, strategically placed incisions to minimize the amount of scar tissue. In most scar less breast lift surgery procedures, an endoscope (small camera on a tube) is inserted, so the surgeon can perform the scar less breast lift surgery with very small instruments, watching the progress on a video screen.
Procedure
In an endoscopic scar less breast lift surgery, a small incision under the armpit provides the necessary opening through which the surgeon performing scar less breast lift surgery inserts instruments, loosening the breast tissue from the chest muscle. The next step of the scar less breast lift surgery is to remove a pie-shaped section of breast tissue, bringing remaining tissue together with sutures. Scar less breast lift surgery is completed when the breast is lifted into position and the incisions are closed. Then, scar less breast lift surgery patients are placed in an appropriate dressing and garment.
Recovery
The recovery period after scar less breast lift surgery is usually shorter than that for a traditional breast lift. Because the incisions from scar less breast lift surgery are smaller, the healing takes less time, with a lower chance of infection. Most scar less breast lift surgery participants are able to return to work within a week of the procedure.
Natural Breast Lift
With advances in cosmetic surgical techniques, patients are now able to achieve natural breast lift results through plastic surgery procedures. Natural breast lift results are desirable to many women who wish to enhance the shape and contour of their breasts without extensive scarring or overly dramatic results. Natural breast lift surgical procedures can remedy the toll that gravity, aging, breast weight, changes in body weight, and childbirth can take on the appearance of a woman's breasts. Breast ptosis, or drooping, can result from the loosening of the breast skin and suspension ligaments.
Research indicates that with advancement in surgical techniques and the subsequent natural breast lift results achieved, breast lift procedures are growing more popular every year. Natural breast lift results are often the product of mastopexy breast lift surgery or mammoplasty breast augmentation surgical procedures.
Mastopexy
Natural breast lift results can be achieved through a surgical procedure known as mastopexy, which raises and re-shapes sagging breasts by tightening the skin and reducing the size of the areola. Mastopexy can involve an anchor-shaped incision circling the areola, descending vertically to the lower part of the breast and expanding horizontally across the breast fold.
This technique has the potential to cause visible scarring but there are some natural breast lift techniques that can also be employed. Some patients with minor sagging can get their desired results with much less scarring. Periareolar mastopexy is a more natural breast lift technique that is performed with an inconspicuous incision circling the areola. Smaller incisions can also be used in some surgical methods that result in less scarring and a more natural breast lift.
Mammoplasty Breast Augmentation
For patients who want to achieve an increased breast size in addition to natural breast lift results, mammoplasty breast augmentation may be an appropriate surgical procedure. With breast augmentation, an implant is inserted into the breasts in order to increase bust size and produce natural breast lift results. There are a number of techniques that can be used to produce natural looking results with little appearance of scarring after surgery.
The trans-umbilical breast augmentation technique uses an incision in the belly button to insert breast implants. Trans-axillary breast augmentation is achieved through incisions made in the underarm area, which can prevent the appearance of post-op scarring. Infra mammary and periareolar breast augmentation can also leave little scarring and achieve natural breast lift results.
